Currently blending – RenderStreet graphics
Posted by: | CommentsThese days I am getting outside my usual line of work with some renders that are on the graphical side of 3d art. As I have written before, I am involved with RenderStreet: a growing online render farm developed by a team of close friends (..and family). Now I am going to produce some new graphics for the website as there has been a lot of work involved in building this but the graphics part was a bit left behind. One thing we agreed upon is that any graphical work, including the logo, will be entirely rendered in Blender. This way all visitors to the site could immediately feel at home! The project is called RenderStreet and I am an architect, so a little architectural imagery is bound to pop up (though I have a secret page layout in preparation that will escape the archviz curse and bring a little more fun. Precise distribution of trees using particles
Posted by: | CommentsSince I started using 3d trees in my work it also became clear I must use instances as much as possible and for large numbers distribute them using the particle system. I have already written about distributing objects using particles and I think settings in that post still apply to the current Blender version (v. 2.65). This method can be applied to areas of random growing vegetation. You can take this one step further by placing the trees in a precise pattern, something I often use in architectural renderings, for trees in parking lots or rows along a road, but still keeping the random scale and rotation features that come with particles and improve the repetition issues.

Render Street – our friendly render farm
Posted by: | CommentsHi, I’m back to work! It has been a long hot summer on the playground.. but while I was doing Mommy stuff others have been busy.
I’m proudly presenting Render Street, an online farm project I’m part of. The other part is my husband Sorin and his partner Marius. From his desk positioned next to mine in our home, Sorin has watched me struggle several times, trying to use a couple of online render services to be able to finish projects on schedule. While I was mumbling annoyed words about uploading being a mess and render times too slow he said “wait, we could easily do something like this that would work!”.

Just talking
Posted by: | CommentsWhat is THAT? you will ask. Well nothing exactly, I was playing around a bit to unwind after “serious work”. I opened Alchemy, a fun random drawing software I sometimes use for “doodling”. When an interesting shape took form, I saved it as svg, opened it in Inkscape to clean it a bit, then in Blender. It imported as a planar curve object, so I converted it to mesh, made a random selection of vertices and moved it around a bit and got this. Not particularly useful in real life projects but I needed an image at the top of my post to draw your attention 🙂

Compositing a Graphic look
Posted by: | CommentsInspired by some cool tutorials on postporcessing archviz illustration styles, I tried my hand at using Blender’s Compositor for creating this type of image. The original tutorial used Sketchup+Photoshop and this I think would be easy to recreate with Blender+ps or Gimp, but I took the challenge to mix it all in the Compositor.
