Currently blending – RenderStreet graphics

These days I am getting outside my usual line of work with some renders that are on the graphical side of 3d art. As I have written before, I am involved with RenderStreet: a growing online render farm developed by a team of close friends (..and family). Now I am going to produce some new graphics for the website as there has been a lot of work involved in building this but the graphics part was a bit left behind. One thing we agreed upon is that any graphical work, including the logo, will be entirely rendered in Blender. This way all visitors to the site could immediately feel at home! The project is called RenderStreet and I am an architect, so a little architectural imagery is bound to pop up (though I have a secret page layout in preparation that will escape the archviz curse and bring a little more fun. It’s been awfully cloudy and dark last week around here but I got all the Sun I needed… in Blender at least! My client asked for a quick sun study on his project and I remembered looking at a cool add-on sometime ago. It’s called Sun Position, just download and add it to your addons list.

Precise distribution of trees using particles

Since I started using 3d trees in my work it also became clear I must use instances as much as possible and for large numbers distribute them using the particle system. I have already written about distributing objects using particles and I think settings in that post still apply to the current Blender version (v. 2.65). This method can be applied to areas of random growing vegetation. You can take this one step further by placing the trees in a precise pattern, something I often use in architectural renderings, for trees in parking lots or rows along a road, but still keeping the random scale and rotation features that come with particles and improve the repetition issues.

Cut-out people in a Blender archviz scene

Whether your scene could use them for a bit of extra detail and realism or just because the client requested it – you have to be prepared to insert them: the happy, carefree cutout people :) (yes, they are usually smiling)

Blender 2.64

Blender 2.64 it’s finally here! By this I mean here on my computer… it’s been out for more than a week and I was unable to install it (on windows 7 – 64 bits). A kind soul from the community directed me to this page in the bug tracker and then it worked.
